Sunshine State, here I come!
With American's graduation in my rear view, I'm off to the Sunshine State! This Fall, I'll be starting my Master's degree with Dr. David Lewis in the Integrative Biology department at the University of South Florida - Tampa campus.
Dr. Lewis specializes in biogeochemistry, landscape ecology, and human-natural systems, which combines just about everything I love. He's published recently about the hydrological and ecological significance of geographically-isolated (or depressional) wetlands, which is a freshwater system I'm interested to learn more about since Florida is home to thousands of them!
Over next couple of weeks, I'll be thrown into a crash course in teaching lab courses at USF and then my first day of classes is August 21st.
Towards the end of September, I'll be presenting my undergraduate research at the Southeastern Ecology & Evolution Conference in Fort Myers, FL. This will be my first oral presentation at a scientific conference, yikes.
I'll go over some of the preliminary results from our two year project that looked at the effects of urbanization on pollutant transport and groundwater-surface water interactions in three stream-systems outside Washington DC.
Stay tuned & Go Bulls!🤘
