I attended the University of Florida's 7th Annual Water Institute Symposium last week and presented my poster titled: "Characterizing Long-Term Ecological Responses to Hydrological Change in Impaired Depressional Wetlands in Tampa Bay, FL".

I presented preliminary data for my first dissertation chapter where I've so far identified the importance of not just using hydrological variables as predictors for wetland ecological condition (including species richness) across freshwater depressional wetlands in Tampa Bay, Florida.

I also showed that there are definitely wetlands in the region that have not returned to conditions similar to reference wetlands following reductions in groundwater pumping that occurred over 20 years ago!

This work was in collaboration with my advisor Dr. David Lewis as well as an undergraduate student in the Integrative Biology Department, Carley DeFillips, whose a wiz at ArcGIS and helped out a lot with the site map you can see on the poster! She'll be joining our lab as a Master's student next year.

You can read more about this project under Research Interests → Wetland Management Feedbacks.
